About The Course

The medicine ball is a weighted ball, and is used for strength training and rehabilitation. Hippocrates is said to have stuffed animal skins for patients to toss for “medicinal” purposes. The word “medicine” was long synonymous with the word “health”. Medicine balls are used to improve sport-specific areas of fitness and also for overall strength, flexibility, fitness, and body coordination. These balls are best known for improving your power. As you throw and catch the ball, you build explosiveness and develop the ability to absorb force and redirect it. The weight of a medicine ball is important when selecting one. You want a ball with the right weight for you – one that challenges but allows you to control the ball and maintain proper form as you do your movements. This course will have several medicine ball all-around workouts for core, upper body, lower body, and endurance. They are all 10 minutes long which can be an nice addition to your regular workouts. The weight of your ball is a personal choice so try holding a 5 or 10 pound weight and try to get a feel of how you would do with a ball that weight. Remember it will get heavier and heavier over a 10 minute workout. One way to choose your correct weight is to hold a one gallon water jug which is 8.3 pounds or 3.7 kilograms. Is that too heavy to move from side to side and overhead? Choose lighter or heavier.
